🇨🇱 Poco más de 15 dias desde que volvi a Ch

🇨🇱 Poco más de 15 dias desde que volvi a Chile. Aún se siente raro, pero claramente muy feliz. Fueron largos 4 años y medio fuera, 14 países visitados en el intertanto. Es la primera vez que que me siento de reales vacaciones en todo este tiempo. El cuerpo está exhausto y te pide un break, le das tanta prioridad a cumplir poco a poco tus sueños que te olvidas de que sin salud no hay nada. Ya era hora de venir. Estos serán meses de paz, escritura y reconectar con los cercanos. Mi 2023 fue un año durisimo, el peor año en casi una década, pero no lo cambio por nada porque he aprendido mucho de lo ya logrado y lo que queda por lograr, y sé que cuando esté de regreso dandole la vuelta a Asia, Europa y Africa a dedo lo atesorare como el año que cambió mi vida para siempre.

Nos vemos mañana en Chillan acereros!

🇦🇺 Just over 15 days since I returned to Chile. It still feels weird, but clearly very happy. It was a long 4 and a half years abroad, visiting 14 countries in the meantime. It's the first time I feel like I'm on a real vacation in all this time. The body is exhausted and asks you for a break, you give so much priority to fulfilling your dreams little by little that you forget that without health there is nothing. It was time to come back. These will be months of peace, writing and reconnecting with those close to you. My 2023 was a very tough year, the worst year in almost a decade, but I wouldn't change it for anything because I have learned a lot from what I have already achieved and what remains to be achieved, and I know that in a future when I am healthy and back on the road, hitchhiking through Asia, Europe and Africa, I will treasure this year as the one that changed my life forever.

🇨🇱 Este viaje si trajo consigo lugares inexplorados de mi primera visita a El Salvador en 2018 🇸🇻. Esta vez Silvia me llevó a recorrer el departamento de Morazan, en la frontera noreste con Honduras. Este lugar de una geografía particular esconde muchas atracciones naturales como la cascada el Chorreron (que es compartido por ambas naciones) y ademas esconde una historia cruda de la matanza de El Mozote en 1981, donde el batallon Atlacatl de la fuerza armada salvadoreña asesino a mas de 900 campesinos, la gran mayoria menores de edad. Esta masacre tardó 10 años en siquiera ser reconocida como tal por los lideres de las juntas militares de la época. Luego, el museo de la revolución nos transporto a los intentos del FMLN de luchar la guerra civil salvadoreña hasta 1992. Duro.

🇦🇺 This trip did bring with it unexplored places from my first visit to El Salvador in 2018 🇸🇻. This time Silvia took me to tour the department of Morazan, on the northeastern border with Honduras. This place with a particular geography hides many natural attractions such as the Chorreron waterfall (which is shared by both nations) and also hides a raw story of the El Mozote massacre in 1981, where the Atlacatl battalion of the Salvadoran armed force murdered more of 900 farmers, the vast majority of them minors. This massacre took 10 years to even be recognized as such by the leaders of the military junta of the time. Then, the museum of the revolution transported us to the FMLN's attempts to fight the Salvadoran civil war until 1992. Hard.

🇨🇱 Dia de Muertos en Pomuch, Mexico 🇲🇽, parte 2. Tras la visita a los restos de los difuntos en el cementerio (ver publicación anterior), vino el Festival por las calles de Pomuch y presentación en el zócalo del pueblo. Esto vino con competencia de altares, representaciones artísticas de teatro y danza, desfile de los grupos y finalmente con un partido de Pok ta Pok, el juego de pelota mesoamericano típico de los mayas. La cereza en el pastel de una experiencias de aquellas. Las fotos no hacen justicia cercana a lo que fue. Siempre es lindo estar de vuelta en tierra maya.

🇦🇺 Day of the Dead in Pomuch, Mexico 🇲🇽, part 2. After the visit to the remains of the deceased in the cemetery (see previous post), came the Festival through the streets of Pomuch and presentation in the town's main square. This came with an altar competition, artistic performances of theater and dance, a parade of the groups and finally with a game of Pok ta Pok, the typical Mesoamerican ball game of the Mayans. The cherry on the cake of one of those experiences. The photos don't do close justice to what it was. It's always nice to be back in Mayan land.

🇲🇽 Dia de Muertos en Pomuch, parte 1. Un sue

🇲🇽 Dia de Muertos en Pomuch, parte 1. Un sueño que quería realizar en esta pasada por México era visitar este particular pueblo ubicado entre Merida y Campeche y vivir el Hanal Pixan en sus tierras. Pomuch honra a sus difuntos retirando los restos de sus familiares del cementerio cada año y limpiandolos con una brocha, adornando la caja donde irán con un paño bordado a mano y manteniendola abierta por unos 20 a 30 días, pintando el osario donde descansa. La exhumacion es completamente legal y tradicional de este pueblo maya, pudiéndose realizar desde los tres años de fallecido. Los altares las fotos, el cempasuchil y las velas hacen el resto del trabajo de guiarlos hacia un retorno tranquilo.

A dream that I wanted to realize on this trip through Mexico was to visit this particular town located between Merida and Campeche and experience the Hanal Pixan in its lands. Pomuch honors its deceased by removing the remains of its relatives from the cemetery every year and cleaning them with a brush, decorating the box where they will go with a hand-embroidered cloth and keeping it open for about 20 to 30 days, painting the ossuary where it rests. The exhumation is completely legal and traditional of this Mayan people, and can be carried out three years after the death. The altars, the photos, the cempasuchil and the candles do the rest of the work of guiding them towards a peaceful return.

🇲🇽 Mochilear ya no se siente como hace 10 años. El aprender de culturas y realidades te cambia. Y no hay vuelta atrás alguna. Todos tenemos derecho a sentirnos turistas de vez en cuando, pero viajar por largos periodos ininterrumpidos te hace consciente de privilegios y oportunidades y así como sacas provecho de los tuyos, también hay que aprender a devolver. Mi breve estadía en Tijuana, Mexico, fue en el Enclave Caracol, un sitio anarkista, autogestionado y que recibe a todos sin importar su raza, género, religión, etc. Allí conocí a Diana y Andrea, a quienes me sumé unas horas para vivir la actividad de cocina gratuita que ellos ofrecen Lunes y miércoles, destinada a gente en situación de calle y migrantes que no han logrado cruzar hacia USA. El aprendizaje de sitios como estos te reconstruye hasta evolucionar los viajes hacia la caridad, la consciencia y el amor.

🇺🇸 Backpacking no longer feels like it did 10 years ago. Learning about cultures and realities changes you. And there is no turning back. We all have the right to feel like tourists from time to time, but traveling for long uninterrupted periods makes you aware of privileges and opportunities and just as you take advantage of yours, you also have to learn to give back. My brief stay in Tijuana, Mexico, was at the Caracol Enclave, an anarchist, self-managed site that welcomes everyone regardless of race, gender, religion, etc. There I met Diana and Andrea, with whom I joined for a few hours to experience the free cooking activity that they offer Mondays and Wednesdays, aimed at homeless people and migrants who have not managed to cross into the USA. Learning from places like these rebuilds you to evolve journeys towards charity, consciousness and love.

🇨🇱 La primera foto es de ayer, la segunda es de hace 1565 dias, mi primera jornada en Australia. Un viaje de 2 años máximo se convirtió en más de 4 años. Supongo que la vida funciona de formas raras y la flexibilidad que uno le da a los acontecimientos hacen que nuestras decisiones viren de cierta forma. Le di la vuelta a todo el país y varias naciones vecinas que soñaba conocer, así como también hice amistades para toda la vida.
Comienza un pequeño nuevo viaje, con algunas breves paradas que eventualmente me llevan de vuelta a Chile.

No se si volveré a Australia. En este momento la respuesta depende completamente de mi salud mental que de a poco va levantando, han sido intensos 4 años que el cuerpo los siente. Saludos a todes y nos vemos pronto!

🇦🇺 The first photo is from yesterday, the second is from 1565 days ago, my first day in Australia. A trip of 2 years maximum turned into more than 4 years. I guess life works in strange ways and the flexibility that I give to events makes our decisions turn in a certain way. I toured the entire country and several neighboring nations that I dreamed of visiting, as well as making lifelong friends. A little new trip begins, with some short stops that eventually will take me back to Chile.

I don't know if I'll come back to Australia. At this moment the answer depends completely on my mental health, which is slowly improving. It has been an intense 4 years that my body feels a lot. Greetings to all and see you soon!

🇨🇱 Siempre es un placer visitar Melbourne, a @tere_bascu y a Jason. Una caminata por Warburton, descubriendo cascadas y aves que vocalizan otras aves (esa fue una nueva). Aguante tomar once y el St. Kilda Football Club! No será la ultima vez que nos veamos amiga!
